At the curtain calls on the opening night of Il Postino at Le Châtelet, Placido Domingo had a wonderful gesture: hands in hands with Charles Castronovo, they were being acclaimed when Maestro Placido pushed forward his young partner Ch.Castronovo, a wonderful gesture from this great artist!
Charles Castronovo was a touching Mario, and what I saw from his Alfredo that night on the Cours Mirabeau made me envious of all the happy ones who managed to get a ticket for this Traviata.
The only missing singer from the Festival Traviata cast during this free concert given by the Festival to the citizens of Aix en Provence and visitors was Natalie Dessay. Natalie Dessay has made hers this role since last night at the Archêvéché in Aix. The opening night was a success for the new stage director J.F Sivadier and Natalie was stunning in this new role. Luckily this is to be followed on Arte, Arte live web on July 16th.
I have to catch up on the beautiful idomeneo I attended at TCE, the dreadful Le cid which ended my season in Marseilles (yes, it was sanctified by the authorized critics but I did not enjoy it.)
Meanwhile I am off to Zurich (first time flying on my own...) for Mozart and Bizet... Be back sooner or later!
Thank you for the update - sounds like you've been having a wonderful time in the past little while - even the Cid???? - I've been on the go also but not keeping the posts up. So want to get to Aix again - who knows maybe next year????
