Just a thought: the Muses are waiting in Marseilles!

Getting ready for tomorrow night at the opera: Here are some views taken last saturday.
The beauty of the gates( bronze medallions and wrought iron, by the artist Castel) is always mesmerising me... now the building is under severe refurbishing and it looks like a huge white plastic ghost.

The 'Grand Foyer' is still very elegant in its pure
art-déco style. Soon it will be hidden too, the windows are closed already. In a year's time or so the whole of the House will be transferred to a new hall near the port area, where a new suburb of Marseilles is being developped under the label 'Euro Mediterranée'. This Hall has already been opened with a free recital starring Patricia Ciofi and the young Roumanian tenor Teodor Ilincai.
But now, the bel canto audience here is waiting for 'La Devia' ...in Elisabetta for the opening night, tomorrow! I will not miss her venue...

  2. Yes it was a fantastic evening for the quality of the singing. The orchestra was too loud at some particular points but it was quite high standard for the whole concert version. The tenor, Stefano Secco sang and acted his role (Roberto Devereux without the scores) He was my greatest surprise as it is.(I saw him in Don Carlo at Bastille and enjoyed his rendition). As for Mariella Devia she is stupendous: voice, young look, energy and above all mastering that bel canto in the pure tradition. And last night it was Santa Cecilia... so... I hope you had a great rehearsal too!
