Viva Verdi!

The anticlimax effect, (after two smashing performances at Bastille Opera House on 19 Sept and 20 Sept) made me leave at the interval of Aïdaaïda

on sunday 29, the opening of my season at Marseille Opera House.
I am not very proud of my reaction now I can think of it.
The poor general singing of the main roles, and the stuffy atmosphere of the House, plus the memories of the last Aïda we had here not long ago ( dec 2008 with Adina Aron in the title role), are somehow the roots of my reaction.
.My intolerance has nothing to do with Verdi's Aïda which has some very moving duets and perhaps one of the finest tune ever written, but real good voices are needed .. the musical background did not match my expectancies that sunday afternoon, and all of the sudden, I quit!
So today I will celebrate this 200 Anniversary in due forms because Verdi means a lot in my Operatic world!
I travelled to Montpellier one day to see Riccardo Muti conduct the Requiewith almost the same cast ... and tonight I will be there with them.. I know I will not run away ...
Ô Patria mia !

  1. Bonjour Yvette! There is nothing shameful about walking out of a subpar performance, I think. :o) Hopefully the Requiem with Muti was better, though. How did it go?

  2. Hello Smorgy! It is on replay for a while and it is very energetic! the woman drummer is fantastic. I miss Olga Borodina and the tenor uti really likes does not agree with my ears, still Muti in Verdi is the real thing!
