Streamed from Frauenkirche Sunday 30-XI- 6pm.ZDF(updated)
Because I am getting ready for a short trip to the Saxony country, so rich in musical and historical past, I am concerned more than usual by the concerts broadcast from Dresde.
The Advent concert, which is outstanding, (as often at Christmas time), will be streamed here:

I am still amazed at the prospect of this journey... I will imagine Young Bach playing at the organ when he thought he could become Kapelmeister and made the journey to Dresde for the audition...
At 6pm, at home, on the web,
With some drawbacks I eventually managed to have a good connection and enjoyed this Advent Concert, could feel the atmosphere of this evening in cold Dresden (the audience outdoors was wearing thick woollies. I have to be careful for my trip next week and remember to take gloves, scarf and bonnet). It was simply astonishing to be at home and listen to such grand music in this particular church. The photos of my computor screen tell so much about the passion of the audience indoors and outdoors. What a place! I was so pleased to see Elina Garanca again, and to discover Christiane Karg who is Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier at the Semperoper.

how I envy you - we were there in June. We had seen the Frauenkirche when it was about half way rebuilt and were so happy to see it completed. Do visit the church in the Altemarkt - Holy Cross - where Schutz was choirmaster. And there are so many wonderful places to eat - it is a city I fell in love with and would return to again and again if I had the chance. Have a wonderful time.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm not sure if the Der Kreig - Otto Dix's Great War triptych is still at the Albertium but if so do go and see it. I was in tears when I left the area - one of the most powerful indictments of war I have every encountered.
ReplyDeleteAlready I can write a list of all the missing points as my visit to Dresden will be brief.. too brief and mainly dedicated to music, arrival on the 6th with Weihnachtsoratorium BWV 248 at Frauenkirche in the evening, then on the 7th, opening matinée 4pm Der Rosenkavalier. back home on the 8th... I would have liked to visit the Green Vaults old and new and take advantage now of your advice ...dearest friend I made a visit to your posts and also read your friend David's ones from Dresden summer 13. You are all so
ReplyDeleteknowledgeable !Thank you for this help when planning my visit to Dresden and also it is always moving to read your Christmas posts. Best wishes Willym.
