Juan Diego Florez gave his third piano recital in Marseille last Friday evening in front of a full house and a conquered audience who adores the natural simplicity and ease of the young singer I was there for the two previous recitals and was pleased and relieved to be able to make this short trip to our Opera House At the moment it is scorching hot even at 8pm and JDF very soon told us he was in Madrid two days ago and it was 47° (it was 37° when he talked to the audience) Of course we told him to take his waistcoat down and he immediatly showed us his braces and made gestures to tell us that was impossible! This communication with the audience went on all evening and was at times hilarious ! we all had great fun, including Vincenzo Scalera, his wonderful pianist who also shares some clowning with him The atmosphere of this recital was intimate, musically splendid and sometimes extremely funny because JDF is quietly very funny, with a kind of Charly Chaplin touch in attitudes
I enjoyed the opera arias where it is now acquired that he will sing all the best lyrical tenor roles
His "Pourquoi me réveiller "was very true and beautiful musicallly
He made fun with Tonio, rolled up his trousers and did his well known aria with the fireworks tops as always!
But the real surprise were the encores when he came in with his guitar
The audience went delirious, behind me a lady shouted several times "Granada " and he quietly said he would decide
He did sing Granada and gave a wonderful Spanish recital added to his well balanced recital
The other great pleasure came from Anja Harteros 's recital at Garnier last Sunday
I was also able to be there and enjoyed her choices tremendously
Her first part with Schubert reminded of her recital in Schwarzenberg in August 2016
This time in Paris she added Berg and Schumann
The Three encores with the three composers gave a wonderful conclusion to great evening for the lierder with such a fantastic singer and very supportive pianist who seems to be just one soul united
with the singer

These two artists are what I like best at the moment and I will try to travel a bit longer to be where they sing!
