Andrea Chénier from La Scala on Arte Tv

I have just finished watching the film, and indeed the whole drama was very cinematographic, giving preferences to pictures of the revolutionary crowd and opulent costumes rather than moving me with beautiful singing which that verismo opera never fails to transmit. Here in spite of the hype : 'Diva' Anna Netrebko and her husband Yusif Eyvazov, (singing the title role for the first time on this big issue, La Scala opening night), no emotion  reached me tonight, even more, they looked miscat in these roles.
Anna Netrebko seemed waxy, her voice not that suited for the music, heavier in the tops and opening widely her throat, showing beautiful teeth, vision which brought immediately to my mind that quote from Somerset Maugham:
"she gave me the impression of having more teeth than were necessary for any practical purpose.(...) The Luncheon"
Both of them were too often on the shouting side of their voices, almost screaming which did not happen when I watched another famous operatic couple, Harteros -Kaufmann in the same roles either on tv like tonight, or in the concert version  they gave at the TCE.
Chailly 's orchestral direction was fine, but perhaps not attentive enough to  the singers.
Very 'cold' impressions  even at the bows.(in spite of the flower display and the screaming)
Perhaps the Diva should stick to the roles she sings well ? As for Yusif Eyvazov, he has nothing, either in his voice or his looks, which made me believe in the role of the revolutionary poet.
So I keep in mind the stunning singers, Anja Harteros and Jonas Kaufmann in the same roles. Luca Salsi in Gérard was the only singer who did a real great job tonight, and I also enjoyed his way of acting and singing this role at the TCE. Tonight, he saved the show!
I felt the need to see Anja Harteros who does not appear as la Diva du siècle, expressing herself on all the roles she already sang this past year, especially on Tosca, who she feels not so much as a Diva than an impulsive woman, in her art, her passion, her feelings, on this youtube Opera on line interview:
