My life on line: Rolando Villazon having a warm "fiesta "for his 50th Birthday direct from Salzburg on Arte concert
Very festive and joyful evening from Salzburg tonight which will be on line for some time I hope on Arte.tv Concert.
Placido Domingo is his guest of honor. He was very moving during his rendition of "Amor vida de mi vida" opening the second part of the concert (dedicated mainly to Zarzuella and operettes hits). It was heart warming to see Rolando after all these months of empty halls. He was very handsome changing three times his perfect riding -coats (sort of!, greyish for the opening Mozart arias then damasked dark blue for the Don Carlo duet with Micheal Volle then another very blue one for his duet with Charles Castronovo (Granada) and last, the purple one for Zarzuella part, his duet with the exquisite soprano Fatma Said his waltz with 'Regulita de mi corazon' (he cheered Regula ...so nicely !) during the last orchestral notes of the overwhelming Franz lehar hit "Heure exquise" (much nicer in French... !)
With Magdalena Kozena I really enjoyed Rolando magical trick, making flowers pop from his heart: first, small yellow roses, then a bigger bright red one for his heart at the end of their duet on ""Non ti scordar di me" (E. Curtis)!Magdalena was beaming at him ...
My musical highlight was discovering the soprano Fatma Said in Mozart, Zarzuella, and duets with Rolando which were very moving. I would like to attend a live concert again, with her, as she is a wonder on line... <
It was a very happy 50th birthday and the Villazonistas were in the audience from France said Roalndo greeting his friends. I felt really old tonight... but glad to share this musical 'offering' sending my best wishes to this fantasic generous singer! Charle Castronovo was fine as always (I am a fan of his too and he looks ever so thin I know he had the global virus, I hope he has fully recovered ) Michel Volle was stunning in his duet with Rolando and kudos for his rendition of "Anatevka" (Jerry Bock, Wenn ich einmal reich ware).

Because the atmosphere of the second part was very hispanic some musicians captivated my attention with their instruments and the contrast from music to seriousness of the musical renditions of the performers: the Salzburg camerata is fantastic .The audience expressed their huge pleasure all along the concert ! (masked audience );Musicians and audience joined in the cheering. Enthusiasm went crescendo ....
And down Memory Lane-youtube it is possible to find Rolando Villazon singing for Oprearalia 1999 competition 'No puder ser' he sang tonight and also the opening Zarzuela aria Placido Domingo sang tonight 'amor vida de mi vida' he has always sung...If it is easy to find these excerpts I only think about them and save uploading some traces that might get erased ... here. It is all enscribed in the memorable concerts I attended almost each year at Théâtre des champs Elysées ... and meeting the young Rolando outside, always so welcoming, funny and ready for joining his fans... after beautiful concerts with a lot of singing at more than 100/00.
