This signature session after the last performance of I Capuleti e i Montecchi in Munich was more formal than the chat I had the chance to share after L'enfance du Christ at Pleyel some years ago.
I really wanted to have a nice photo of hers dedicated and not one of my poor ones either from Carmen, or Alcina, or this Romeo.
She was stunning and so different from what she gave on the streamed performance.
Probably because the balance of voices was really fine with Eri Nakamura and also the much younger appearance of her Giulietta gave to their couple a sweeter and truer look. I had also the impression Vesselina Kasarova was more vocally at ease in the ensembles.
There was a strange atmosphere in the House, some seats were empty. Where I was sitting, the fairly posh upholstered seats ('vieux rose' covered) were ever so squeaky and the audience around very noisy at times... a lady from Munich told me it was rather unusual for the place. As in Salzburg, I noticed how smart the crowd was, a bit too much sometimes.
The voices on this last performance seemed all so fine and the instruments solos, the cello one particularly utterly moving. Bellini, when I have the chance to be part of a live rendition is my favourite opera composer. Is it possible to listen to Vesselina Kasarova's Deh tu bell anima' without shedding tears?
The last vision of the two of them walking into eternity will be on my mind any time I recall this opera. I enjoyed this production a lot.
Will I manage to join another live performance with Vesselina Kasarova somewhere in Europe?
It was also a marvellous night for friendship: meeting real fans dedicated to Vesselina's Art like Thàdieu was very intimidating after the fifth round !
Today saturday, back from Munich and getting ready for another much longer journey, I took time to google and find out where Vesselina Kasarova will sing... Romeo, so are you ready to fly to Oslo next fall?
So glad you have a superb opera experience and lovely to read your thoughts
ReplyDeleteEyes! thanks! I made some smallish videos not good enough to be on public YT. When I started this blog it was possible to upload on the site. Now it is always related to YT.
DeleteEnjoy the long week-end!( I watched the Thames Celebration yesterday, the Royal Couple is brave, under pouring rain, standing for more than two hours...)
Yvette it was lovely to meet you in the 'queue', well at least as for long as my nerves could stand such an Un-British thing as the autograph queue. Oslo sounds very enticing doesn't it, I'll confess I found listening to what I thought to be her last Romeo heartbreaking.
ReplyDeleteI had been in a 'posher seat' the Wednesday before and was very glad to be back in the Galerie for the final night, a much better atmosphere up there!
Thanks for your lovely post, and bringing it all back to me?
Cat
@Cat! This queue was a bit confusing, yes, and keeping French and English going almost at the same time did not help! I only realise the day after (because Murielle explained to me) who I met... I am sorry about that!In fact you were right to book for two nights, it was such a big event.Dc T was even wiser!
DeleteYes, it would have been lovely to have seen more but children and work limit the amount of time I can steal away! And no apologies necessary, it was I think a rather unnerving queue to be in what with Frau K just feet away! It was really lovely to say hello albeit briefly. I am sure we will bump into each other again... Perhaps Oslo, or Zurich :)

Dear Cat, I will re-consider my opera outings and privilege Italy and Zurich. So I am not thinking of Der R but Tannhaüser instead. it will be a case of "killing two birds with one stone"! (the Alcina miracle with both A.Harteros and Vesselina Kasarova 'revisited'). We might see each other again but surely share our enthusiasm on the web!
Deleteintimidating? you mean intimating? :-) am usually more talkative but it might have been the last night and i got a bit sentimental ;-)
ReplyDeletethat's reallly a cool little clip!! *love*
my last 2 officemates have just moved to Norway!! I have open invitations!
