On the 24th of July, here he was, opening the piano festival. I was there too and loved so much listening to his playing.
Here is a video before and just after this first concert :
Découvrez Boris Berezovski ouvre le festival international de piano de la Roque d'Anthéron sur Culturebox !
Monday the 17Th was his consecration as his amazing recital was being filmed for Mezzo and broadcast live.
S.Rachmaninov:Piano Sonata n°1 opus 28 'Faust'
Intermission
Rachmaninov: Preludes n°1, 2, 4, 6, 10
Liszt Venezia e Napoli
And the devilish Mephisto -valtz n°1( Ithink he is really the great virtuoso of this piano 'killer'. Stunning interpretation!
Then he gave five 'encore' and was simply marvellous.
The way he plays Rachmaninov is unique. The five preludes were my favourite ones.
I was moved by the waves sometimes soft sometimes terrific he poured out of his instrument. Really torrential, so much part of his instrument.
Always in his grey suit which is a bit baggy, his shouders bent a little like a manual worker at his bench, his tense face which is like marble, all he seems to want us to see is his terrific skilled hands and his muscular rhythm when he rushes the last notes and springs up, slighty turns to the audience, bows once , turns back and disappears, all that in a very gentle way, no showing off, still in his music. Then he reappears , bows and smiles looking at us , and right at the end bows again touching his heart, sharing that passion the audience gives him with triumph. It was quite clammy that night and he had to sweep some pearls of sweat on his cheek or nose, he was fantastic! The most amazing about that memorable night is that we set our recorder and drove to la Roque which is 18kms away and came back to see the tape of the concert! really good to be able to compare and watch closely this casual looking pianist and yet genius!
I had bought a photo and brought my records, I managed to have them signed and thanked him with a lot of admiration, simply too.
