Lily ...Pierre Perret recalls Angela Davis.

As I was listening to the French 24h Radio news channel, France Info, the other day about noon, I was happy to hum along to 'Lily' sung by Pierre Perret while listening to this moving song written in 1977. I have always appreciated Pierre Perret for the natural beat of his popular poetry. I suddenly realised that this rather long poem about Lily's life had been cut off just before an important detail which perhaps does not speak directly to everybody, but really means a lot to me. I was a student when the Soledad Brothers were on trial and when George Jackson was shot and I was at that time very concerned about what was happening in Alabama. The song was interrupted just before this quote about Angela Davis
Why did it have to stop before that passage?

Is Angela Davis now becoming an impopular Black leader in the present political spheres? I have always admired her. Pierre Perret must have done so too; this quote tells more about him really. And Lily is influenced by Angela's fate and fights in the song. It is rather strange that this song had to be stopped just before this important passage which recalls that period. France is changing indeed. Perhaps 'Freedom' which is the first word of the highly praised motto (Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité) is little by little merging into another meaning... Are they censoring this passage in case young people who happen to listen to the news on France Info might try to find out who Angela Davis is and what she did and still does? Do they dread a 'bad' influence from a quote in a very good popular song?
It drives me mad...
Meanwhile the present government is chasing out of this country thousands of Gypsies and hardly anything is said on the televised news.
The only true and sensible news can be followed on the radio, France Inter, at 3.05 PM "La-bas si j'y suis'...I am relieved that Daniel Mermet is still on the air every day at 3PM.
