I would have to follow the tracks of Ernest Pignon Ernest Street Art, see what is left of his collages on some old church walls in narrow winding streets, and try to find his dead holy corpses hanging out of caves. It is not an easy game to play but I fairly well know it is a huge part of this journey in my heart.
I would have to find my way to Paestum which dazzles on my mind as much as Cape Sounion did when I was getting ready for my Greek trip.
How would I manage a day trip to Herculaneum and Pompei? armies of tourists are waiting there and I resent organised tours in such sites.
I would need some time to pop to Cuma on Virgil's steps... and gaze at the ruins by the sea shore..
Would l see Eboli or will it remain a spot on a map with Carlo Levi's writings I have read so far, on my mind?
Perhaps it is a very bad idea to actually do this trip so well programmed in my imagination...it will turn out hectic in broad daylight, scorching sun and lack of energy ....when trapped in tourist queues....or waiting for a bus which will never turn up ....or else spend a fortune on a taxi to one of these destinations, so clear, on my mind ?
Such a quandary for you. I have read about the strikes of the railway people - these things are sent to try us. I was once stuck near Marseille for 5 days because of industrial action on the airline.
ReplyDeleteI feel sorry for you... it is a bit much at times; it took me a bit longer both ways but not as bad as your experience. I will go... flyng this time, I simply do not know what will happen during our four days in Naples, too short for all is on my mind... still...
